Steph responds to LeBron’s one-liner on what still makes NBA great, originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Steph Curry and LeBron James put on another show on Wednesday night.
The NBA icons and future Naismith Memorial Hall of Famers battled for the 53rd time, including playoff games, with James’ Los Angeles Lakers emerging victorious against Curry’s Warriors, 115-113, at Chase Center.
While the debate over the quality of the current NBA product rages, James made it clear that the league still has some things to offer.
“LeBron and Steph,” James told reporters when asked what’s still great about the NBA, night to night.
Lakers guard Austin Reaves, who made the game-winning layup with 1.0 seconds left in regulation, heard James’ response and agreed.
“Great answer,” said Reaves (ESPN’s Dave McMenamin).
Curry, who scored a whopping 38 points and did everything he could to push the Warriors to a victory, was asked about what James said.
“That’s a good answer,” Curry told reporters after the loss. “That’s why we’re playing today. Who knows what will come in the future, but basketball, I’ve been watching it since I woke up this morning. All [three] games. I’m probably going to watch this thing at halftime, the Phoenix-Nuggets game, and I know our game stood out. You definitely feel privileged to be in these kinds of situations.”
Curry is in his 16th NBA season. James is in his 22nd campaign. And with all those miles on their feet, they are still the draw in the NBA.
With both stars nearing the end of their historic careers, no one knows how many head-to-head matches they have left.
But on Christmas Day they proved again that they still know how to put on a show.
