Steph reveals what surprised him about Buddy’s exercise routine originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
Steph Curry is surprised by Buddy Hield’s intense practice regimen.
The Golden State superstar explained on the latest episode of “Dubs Talk” how remarkable Hield’s work ethic has been since joining the team this summer.
“It’s like when [Kevin Durant] came and you see how a guy is at the top of the list of a certain skill set, you see how they work,” Curry told Monte Poole and Dalton Johnson of NBC Sports Bay Area.
“When I look at Buddy, I know he’s talking about me. I know there’s a clip where he was doing an interview after practice and he said, ‘You’re all interrupting my time to watch Steph shoot.’ I do the exact same thing with him.
“I fully admit that he takes a lot more shots than I do in practice. It’s not even close. The volume is insane. And it’s something I never really knew was part of his routine.
Hield has developed into one of the NBA’s best long-range shooters, making more three-pointers than any other NBA player over the past five seasons.
His addition to the Warriors has mitigated the departure of Klay Thompson, giving Golden State another scoring opportunity.
For Curry, it’s Hield’s approach to shooting that has impressed him the most so far.
“He’s a workaholic, he’s a gym rat, he likes to get shots until it feels good,” Curry told Poole and Johnson. “I’m a little more calculated about the intensity and where I get shots. So it’s pretty cool to see two different approaches. We motivate each other in this. I did it with Klay for thirteen years and now I have a new running mate who can push me.”
The “Splash Buddies” combination has worked out extremely well for Golden State. The team has started the season 9-2 thanks to some deadly shooting from the duo.
The 31-year-old is averaging 16.6 points per game, the second-highest in the NBA among bench players. Meanwhile, Curry remains one of the best players in the world, capable of taking over games and pushing the Warriors to victory.
While the magic of the Curry-Thompson combination cannot be replicated, Hield is doing a more than admirable job in his first season with the Warriors.
