Stockton parents charged with child abuse and murder after death of their one-month-old son

A Stockton man and woman are charged with child abuse and manslaughter after their infant son suffered multiple fatal injuries, police said.

According to Stockton police, officers were called to a local hospital at 2:21 a.m. Wednesday after medical personnel became concerned about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

According to police, a number of injuries consistent with abuse were found on the one-month-old boy.

The child’s parents, 23-year-old Robert Meyer and 23-year-old Sareya Sexton, were interviewed by detectives from the police’s Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit (CASA).

After speaking with detectives, Meyer and Sexton were arrested and booked into the San Joaquin County Jail Wednesday night. They are being held without bail.

The parents are expected to appear in San Joaquin County Superior Court on July 12 at 8:30 a.m. in Division 8C for further arraignment.
