June 10 – After weeks of sunny, dry weather in northern New Mexico, storms began dumping rain on the region on Sunday, and storms are expected to continue through Tuesday.
As of Monday morning, Santa Fe had received more than an inch of rain in about 12 hours, according to National Weather Service readings at the Santa Fe Municipal Airport.
During the same period, Las Vegas, NM, received about 2 inches of rain and Los Alamos saw about a third of an inch.
A flood watch was in effect through Monday afternoon for the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and communities east of the mountains, the National Weather Service office in Albuquerque warned. The threat of flooding is greater for areas within the Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon Fire burn scar.
Temperatures in Santa Fe cooled to an expected high of 67 degrees on Monday, after high temperatures of around 90 degrees in recent days.
Scattered storms are expected to continue across the region through Tuesday, with a return to warmer and drier weather Wednesday, according to Monday morning’s forecast.
