DeKalb County police investigated a unique hostage situation at an apartment complex last night.

A woman told it Channel 2’s Darryn Moore on the phone that a man she didn’t know had kicked in her door. The woman then ran to the patio and called 911.

The woman also mentioned the Channel 2 Action News newsroom to report what was going on at her apartment complex on Candler Road.

The situation turned into a three-hour standoff. The SWAT team fired a canister of tear gas into the apartment. A short time later, A Channel 2 Action News caught the man opening the window and throwing it back out.

SWAT then stormed the unit, smashing a window and kicking in the front door. They eventually arrested the man, but had to force him into the police car.

The woman has been in hospital since Thursday morning after a nervous breakdown, while the man is in prison.

Police have not identified the suspect.
