Street bike crashes during police chase in Olympia second in 24 hours

Thurston County Sheriff’s Office officers pursued a motorcyclist who led the way in a chase that ended in a crash in Olympia.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, a Thurston County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputy attempted to stop a street bike that was riding erratically near 93rd Avenue Southwest in Olympia.

The suspect ignored the stop, drove away and the officer started the pursuit.

The chase continued north on Interstate 5 to Highway 101 before passing through some area neighborhoods.

At the 1500 block of Delphie Road, the suspect swerved, hit a mailbox and was thrown from it.

The suspect landed about 25 feet away from his bicycle, Sheriff Sanders said.

The suspect was taken to hospital with serious injuries and the bicycle was confiscated.

During the investigation, officers discovered that the suspect had charges of driving without a valid driver’s license and driving under the influence.

Officers believe this is not the first time they have encountered this individual and are looking into a case from October 2023, in which a cyclist evaded the TSCO on the same bicycle.

TCSO will be recommending new charges against the suspect in connection with this pursuit.

The sheriff wrote that this was the second street bike crash that eluded TCSO in 24 hours.
