Saturday forecast
Saturday is a great start to Memorial Day weekend! Tomorrow also looks decent, before we avoid some showers and thunderstorms on Monday.
Saturday will see a mix of sun and clouds, with highs in the low 80s inland and 70s along the coasts.
A weakening line of showers and storms will approach the northwest suburbs late this afternoon and into the evening. A passing shower could move a lot closer to New York City late tonight, well after sunset. It’s not a problem, but keep that in mind if you come out late.
Lows overnight will be in the 60s.
Sunday forecast
Sunday will be another day with a mix of sun and clouds. In the afternoon, a few showers or storms cannot be ruled out, especially inland. But again, there’s nothing to cancel outdoor plans. Most of the area should remain dry with highs in the low 80s.
Red alert for storms on Memorial Day
Memorial Day looks much more active with some waves of showers and storms. The morning will be cloudy, but it could be mostly dry in and around NYC. That won’t be the case in the north and west, where rain and rumbling can occur shortly after sunrise.
Once we get past the lunch break, wet weather is everywhere. A series of heavy rain and thunderstorms will move in from the west in the evening a high risk of flooding in some places and a serious weather risk.
Our model data is still a bit uncertain about the timing, but we now think the midday hours would be most impacted. We spent a red alarm for that reason, specifically for Monday afternoon. Highs will only be in the 70s, although it will feel humid and tropical.
We will keep you informed. For now, plan your outdoor activities for today and Sunday.
