Subsidence limits Ocean City Expressway to one-way traffic ahead of July 4 weekend

The busy weekend in Ocean City gets off to a slow start.

A sinkhole near the base of the Isle of Wight Bay Bridge temporarily closed the Ocean City Expressway (MD Route 90) Wednesday evening, Ocean City police reported Wednesday night.

“[The bridge] will be closed occasionally for repairs to a sinkhole near the base of the bridge,” police said.

The road connecting Ocean Pines on the Worcester County mainland to Ocean City reopened to limited traffic later Wednesday evening, according to the Maryland Department of Transportation.

“[MD Route 90] will transition to one-way flag operations during repairs. This means [Route 90] remains open to traffic. Delays are expected as they alternate traffic flow by using one lane around the repairs,” police said Wednesday night.

Police asked motorists to use Route 50 and Delaware Route 54 as alternates.
