An inmate who died Thursday morning at a Suffield correctional facility has prompted an early death investigation.
The man was found unconscious and lying on his back on a table in a housing unit after staff at MacDougall-Walker Correctional Institution were notified of a medical emergency code at 7:19 a.m., according to the Connecticut Department of Correction.
Facility staff performed life-saving measures but were unable to revive him, corrections officials said.
The man’s identity is being kept secret pending notifications from next of kin.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is expected to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death.
The untimely death is being jointly investigated by the Department of Correction and the Connecticut State Police.
