Sunday will start off dry before rain moves into Philadelphia. There may be showers towards the end of the Eagles game

Sunday will start off on the cold and cloudy side, with temperatures gradually rising from the 20s to the low 40s on Sunday afternoon. While most of the day will remain dry, a storm system approaching from the west will bring an increasing chance of rain this evening and through the early hours of Monday morning.

The rain is likely to let up by the start of the Eagles match this afternoon (4:25 kick-off), but we are likely to see a few showers moving into the area in the second half, with steady showers likely into the night.

While winter weather likely won’t be an issue in Philadelphia, in the areas around the Poconos this will all start as a brief spell of light, slushy snow or a wintry mix. A winter weather advisory is in effect for the Poconos from 7 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday. Snow/sleet accumulations of up to 1 inch are possible at higher elevations.

As warmer air works its way into Monday morning, the transition to rain will eventually occur.

Reserve extra time for the Monday morning commute. Rain will continue for the rest of the day on Monday, but another system will increase the chance of rain again Monday night into Tuesday morning.

High pressure may be present for a short time late Tuesday into early Wednesday, which looks to bring high temperatures near 60 degrees Tuesday afternoon.

Our third system of the week will likely arrive late Wednesday. Models are somewhat mixed on the arrival time – it could be as early as Wednesday afternoon, but it is more likely to last until Wednesday evening, bringing rain through Thursday morning. While this looks like rain again for the city and suburbs, it could end up as a snow shower for the Poconos, and then be followed by another round of cold air – in fact, next weekend looks very cold from here on out.

For the week ahead: definitely milder, definitely rainier – with the most important consistency being inconsistency!
