Suspect arrested on multiple warrants after fleeing officers in Sumner

A pursuit in Sumner early Sunday, Oct. 14, led to the arrest of a suspect with multiple outstanding warrants after officers located him in a stolen vehicle, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident began around 12:11 a.m. when an officer spotted the stolen car near 8900 Riverside Drive and attempted to make a traffic stop. However, the driver took off and started a short chase.

The pursuit quickly ended at 74th Street East and 166th Avenue East when the suspect exited the vehicle and ran, leaving a female passenger behind.

As the suspect ran, officers warned him not to reach into his pockets, but he continued to do so.

The suspect eventually stopped on the other side of a nearby field, where he surrendered and said he had swallowed some pills.

Once taken into custody, the suspect began showing signs of a possible overdose.

Officers administered Narcan, placed him in a recovery position, and waited for fire department assistance.

Despite the Narcan treatment, the suspect remained aggressive and uncooperative with first responders, claiming he did not have a warrant.

Initially, officers confirmed this with the name he provided, but a tattoo on his arm revealing his real surname led to further investigation.

At the hospital, where the suspect was taken for medical examination, officers confirmed that he had given a false name.

A records check showed he had multiple warrants for his arrest, including charges of escape from community custody for unlawful possession of a firearm, domestic violence, theft out of Kent, a King County warrant and possession of auto theft tools out of Bonney. More.

Following his hospital release, the suspect was booked into the Pierce County Jail on charges of eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, obstruction, resisting arrest, making false statements and driving with a suspended license (third degree). ).
