Suspect charged with murder after deadly mobile home fire in Gaston County

Police say a suspect is in custody after a deadly house fire in Gaston County that left one person dead and three people injured Sunday evening.

First responders in Gaston County said the fire happened just after 8 p.m. on Brian Circle near Hickory Grove Road north of McAdenville.

Emergency services confirmed that three people were seriously injured, including one child. A fourth victim died as a result of the fire.

According to Gaston County Police, the fire was started by 35-year-old Shawn Christenberry.

According to the GCPD, Christenberry is charged with first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson.

Christenberry was one of the people injured in the fire and taken to the hospital. Police said he will receive a warrant when he is released from the hospital.

Channel 9’s Ken Lemon discovered the deceased victim was 60-year-old Randy Smith.

Christenberry’s 6-month-old son and the boy’s mother were the other people injured in the fire.

Police have not released a possible motive for the deadly fire.
