A 42-year-old man accused of raping a woman on the Fern Ridge Trail bike path along Amazon Creek in Eugene on Aug. 8 was arraigned in Lane County court on Monday.
According to the Eugene Police Department, officers responded to reports of a rape on the bike path just before 11 a.m. The woman described the suspect as a white male, approximately 40 years old, with brown hair and last seen wearing a black and white garment. sleeveless shirt with text on the back, green shoes and a tattoo on one of his arms.
The suspect was seen pushing a bicycle and later used it to flee, the EPD said in a news release at the time.
Timothy Colnar, 42, was arrested at the Lane County Jail on September 26 on an unrelated warrant out of Lincoln County on charges of fourth-degree assault, which amounts to domestic violence and harassment.
Although it was not immediately clear how investigators tied Colnar to the case, he was formally charged Monday with first-degree rape, unlawful sexual penetration in the first degree and sexual abuse in the first degree, court documents show.
Colnar has a pretrial hearing on Nov. 11 and remained in custody at the Lane County Jail as of Monday evening.
