Suspect police say he posed as a federal employee and took money from wanted woman in Lansing

LANSING – Michigan State Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying a suspect who posed as a federal employee in a scam that cost a woman “a large sum of money.”

The woman received a call in August from someone claiming to be a member of the Federal Trade Commission. The caller told the woman that she had been a victim of fraud but that the FTC could recover their money, the MSP said in a message on X.

The caller told the woman she would have to pay a “protection fee,” which would later be reimbursed to the victim, the post said.

She filed the complaint with Lansing state troopers.

The suspect, an unknown man, met the victim, the MSP said. The woman took a photo of him.
