A man was arrested in Las Vegas last week in connection with the fatal shooting of a 16-year-old boy in Long Beach in early August, authorities said.
According to Long Beach police, the shooting happened on August 4 in the 3300 block of 67th Street. At that time, officers were dispatched to the area after hearing a person had been shot in the street.
They arrived to find the victim with multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body. The boy, who has still not been identified, was a Bell resident, authorities said.
Investigators say the victim was dropped off at the home by a male relative before the shooting. After getting out of the vehicle, he returned a short time later and was followed by an unknown group of people.
Moments later, the shooting occurred, hitting both the boy and the relative’s car. The family member fled the area and called the police. He suffered minor injuries to his upper body and was treated at the scene, police said.
When the police arrived, the suspects had already fled.
During the course of their investigation, detectives identified 41-year-old Torrance man Ronald Guidry as the suspect. They obtained a warrant for his arrest and he was located on Oct. 17 by officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, police said.
“Search warrants were subsequently served in the cities of Las Vegas, Moreno Valley, Rialto and Perris, where exhibits of evidence were located and recovered,” Long Beach police said.
Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related.
