FRENCH CITY — Monroe County Sheriff Department officers arrested a suspected car thief on Saturday, according to a release from Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnought.
Saturday, October 19 at 3:30 p.m., Deputy Dominic Flint was dispatched to Danny’s Fine Foods in Frenchtown Township in response to reports of a stolen vehicle. Information about the stolen car was sent to all Monroe County Sheriff’s units and the search began.
Officer Justin Zielinski was the one who spotted the stolen vehicle in a McDonald’s parking lot on South Monroe Street. As the car left the parking lot, Zielinski tried to get it to stop for a traffic stop; instead, the car drove into the Go Mad Fitness parking lot and ran from the vehicle.
A perimeter was established and the suspect was apprehended by Deputy Cody Carena, with assistance from Deputy Jack Hall and his K9 partner Bane.
The suspect, a 33-year-old Newport man, was arrested and booked into the Monroe County Jail.
