Suspects appear at preliminary hearing after Williamsfield shooting

June 28—JEFFERSON — A Geneva man was arraigned Thursday before an Ashtabula County grand jury on two charges related to a June 20 shooting in Williamsfield Township, according to Eastern County Court records.

Gabriel Heniger, 19, of Geneva, waived his right to a preliminary hearing after he was charged with a first-degree felony, related to the shooting, and a second-degree misdemeanor, also related to the shooting.

He remains in the Ashtabula County Jail under a $750,000 bond, according to court records.

Joshua Liddy, 18, of Chardon, was charged with aggravated battery in connection with the case, court records show. He also waived his right to a preliminary hearing and will face a grand jury.

Liddy’s bail was set at $25,000 with a 10 percent cash equivalent.

The incident occurred on June 20 in Williamsfield Township just before midnight at the intersection of Stanhope-Kellogsville Road and Salter Road, according to a June 21 news release from the Ashtabula County Sheriff’s Office.

A juvenile has also been charged, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim was shot in the abdomen and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The three suspects were later apprehended in Plymouth Township with the assistance of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The press release indicates that more people may be charged in connection with the incident.

The hearing took place Thursday morning in Eastern County Court.
