An SUV veered off the road and crashed through the roof of a home in Rancho Palos Verdes, sending the driver to the hospital and leaving the home riddled with debris Sunday.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the crash was reported at 5:54 p.m. at a home on Santona Drive, with the driver transported to a hospital in unknown condition. The driver had exited the Granvia Altamira, right behind the house, and steered the SUV straight into the house. There was a gaping hole in the roof and the carpets were soaked in automotive fluid.
“The whole house rumbled a little bit, but it didn’t seem like an earthquake,” said Joann Killeen, who lives there with her husband.

They were sitting at the table when they heard the crash, and shortly afterwards they were confronted by a Mercedes-Benz SUV in the middle of their family room. After seeing some broken glass and the vehicle itself, Killeen quickly realized there was a person in the SUV, who seemed to be “fading in and out of consciousness,” she said.
“And my training told me to keep her alive until I could get help here,” Killeen said, explaining that she called 911 and kept telling the woman to watch her and try to stay awake and alert .
“She’s lucky to be alive,” she said.
The area surrounding the house where the accident occurred is marked in red and the cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Meanwhile, Killeen said she was grateful she and her husband were not in that part of the house when the SUV arrived.
