“These threats are heinous and unacceptable – and attacking places of worship on one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar is particularly cowardly. We will not tolerate acts of anti-Semitism or attempts to incite fear. New Yorkers stand united against all forms of hate and hate.” violence,” Hochul said.

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Bishop of Brooklyn Robert Brennan, expresses his solidarity

“These should be days of joy as the Jewish community celebrates the start of a new year, but we know the atmosphere is somber as we mark the one-year anniversary of last year’s evil, horrific terrorist attack on Israel on October 7. Our hearts continue to break for those whose lives were lost that terrible day, and for the innocent hostages still held in captivity in Gaza,” Cardinal Timothy Dolan and Bishop Robert Brennan of Brooklyn said in a statement. “But today’s concerns are not limited to the Middle East. Here in New York and around the world, we note with great concern the disturbing rise of anti-Semitism. Allow us to say this unequivocally to our Jewish friends here in New York and around the world that you are not alone. In the past, we Catholics have failed to stand together with you against hatred and anti-Semitism. Shame on us for that time. We now join religious leaders of all faiths in pledging that we will not tolerate anti-Semitism in any form.”
