A Tarzana resident used his security camera system, a bright flashlight and a paintball gun to stop burglars from breaking into his neighbor’s home.

Julian Harper-Smith shared a video captured by his security cameras around 10pm on Tuesday.

He says the neighbours weren’t too happy about his parked caravan, which is equipped with cameras to keep an eye on the street, but after last night’s scare they are more helpful.

Harper-Smith said he happened to be looking at his camera system when he saw a car driving back and forth and three people getting out of the car and climbing over the neighbor’s fence in an odd spot. He said he knew something was wrong.

“I walked over, got my paintball gun and a bright flashlight. When I walked outside I turned the flashlight on. I must have scared them because the light was so bright and they all ran back to the car,” Harper-Smith said.

“Then they jumped in the car. I put my flashlight down and shot a few times into the back of the car, hoping they wouldn’t come back.”

Harper-Smith says he also has dozens of cameras on his property because he sees intruders in his neighborhood breaking into mailboxes and cars every week.

A neighborhood in Encino has been built nearby hit by a series of home burglaries in July alone.

Harper-Smith said his crime-fighting methods simply send a message that he shouldn’t interfere in his neighborhood.
