Teen, 14, accused of shooting 11-year-old boy at West Palm Beach home

WEST PALM BEACH – A 14-year-old boy was charged Monday with shooting an 11-year-old boy at a city home, police said.

In addition, a 12-year-old boy who was in the home during the shooting was charged with two counts of firearms possession after he brought two 9mm handguns to a home on Division Avenue with the intention of selling them to two teenagers, police said.

West Palm Beach police said the shooting occurred Monday when the 14-year-old handled a gun and pulled the trigger. The bullet struck the leg of an 11-year-old boy sitting on a couch across the room.

Paramedics took the boy to St. Mary’s Medical Center, where he was treated and released.

Police arrested the 14-year-old Friday at Palm Beach Lakes High School and charged him with one count of culpable negligence. The teen refused to cooperate with police and was taken to the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice Assessment Center.

One of the two guns the 12-year-old boy brought to the house was used to shoot the 11-year-old. It has not yet been recovered, but the second gun the 12-year-old is accused of was found at the boy’s home.
