NEW YORK – A 17-year-old was shot and wounded during an after-party in Brooklyn on Thursday evening, sources said.
Police are now searching for the shooter and another man who ran from the scene.
The shooting happened at a luxury high-rise apartment complex on Linden Boulevard in Flatbush around 8:30 p.m.
Sources said police arrived to find the 17-year-old boy with a gunshot wound to his stomach. He was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition.
The victim does not live in the building and it is unclear whether he was the intended target, according to sources.
Sources also said police found a shell casing at the scene.
Residents say there are other safety concerns
Residents told CBS New York that the shooting occurred at a party on the fourth floor, and cited several other security incidents in the building. One woman said even though she didn’t hear the shooting Thursday night, she worries about the safety of her children, both inside and outside.
“It’s a bit unsafe, you know, we feel a bit unsafe and confused at the moment. So it’s very sad that it happened, it’s very sad. Especially because we live with the children, we have a boy of seven years,” said Russa Sichinava. “I can’t even imagine if we were at that moment, for example, in the children’s playground, what would happen.”
Residents also indicate that they have not received any information from building management about the shooting. Managers on site would not comment on the incident.
