Teenage boy shot dead in Wilton Manors apartment in Broward: officers

Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office are investigating the fatal shooting that left a teenager dead Monday afternoon at an apartment building in Wilton Manors.

Officers from the Wilton Manors and Fort Lauderdale police departments — as well as paramedics from the Fort Lauderdale Fire Department — arrived at the apartment building at 403 NW 25th Street shortly after 2:30 p.m. after receiving a report of a shooting, officers said.

They found the victim, identified by the sheriff’s office as 16-year-old Christopher Granados, shot inside a multi-family residence, according to the sheriff’s office, which has taken over the investigation.

Paramedics took Granados to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The sheriff’s office said in a statement that the “shooting was contained to the residence and there was no danger to the community.” The agency did not respond to a follow-up request seeking clarification of that statement.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
