Teenager in custody after four people were murdered southeast of Belen

December 14 – Four people are dead and a 16-year-old boy is in police custody after a quadruple murder in Valencia province.

New Mexico State Police said in a post Saturday morning that the incident occurred on Camino Escondido, a street in a remote neighborhood southeast of Belen.

State police have not released the genders or ages of the four people killed, nor said how they were killed, how the teen was involved or what led to the incident.

“Details are limited. More information will follow via a press release,” the National Police said.

As of Saturday evening, state police spokespeople had not provided any further details.

Police vehicles could be seen parked outside the home, which was in a rural and undeveloped area southeast of the Rio communities. Crime scene tape stretched across the road as officers investigated the killings.

A wreath was tied securely to the white wrought iron fence, the top of which was decorated with colorful Christmas lights. Through the fence, a small Santa Claus figure could be seen standing next to the front door, a few feet away from a lighted tree.
