Teens try and fail to rob elderly man in Ventura, more news

Attempted robbery reported in Ventura

Two juveniles were arrested Friday on suspicion of attempting to rob a 76-year-old man outside a drugstore on Ventura’s east side, police said.

The man told police that around 2:40 p.m., he was confronted by a pair of 14-year-old boys who ruthlessly tried to rob him at the CVS store in the 7800 block of Telegraph Road, just east of Kimball Road. The youths were unsuccessful in their attempt, according to Cmdr. Edward Caliento said Sunday.

The man said he was walking to his home when he was approached just north of the store by a youth on an electric scooter. The teen used his scooter to block the victim’s path and demanded money, according to a Ventura Police Department news release.

The man reportedly tried to walk around the teen, who moved his scooter in front of the victim, blocking his path for a second time. The other teen then approached on an electric bicycle and helped him restrain the man before another demand for money was made, according to the police report.

The man eventually managed to avoid the youths, walked away unharmed and called 911, police said.

Two suspects were identified in connection with the crime, cited and released to their parents, police said.

Police said the altercation took place in the 2500 block of Victoria Avenue before the assailant fired one shot into the vehicle but did not injure the complaining party. The attacker then fled to Marina Village, a short street east of Victoria Avenue and Channel Islands Harbor.

According to a press release issued Saturday, the attacker was wearing a black Nike hoodie and gray sweatpants and was in possession of a black backpack.
