Temperatures will approach 80 degrees over the next few days as summer tries to make a comeback

Over the next week, North Jersey will see a forecast of unseasonably warm weather, with high temperatures reaching nearly 80 degrees on some days, according to the National Weather Service.

In the area close to the Teterboro Airport, temperatures will reach the 70s starting Saturday and possibly last into next Thursday. A high temperature of 79 degrees is forecast on Monday, and the next day the high temperature will reach 78 degrees, according to NWS.

Starting Saturday, North Jersey will see high temperatures that are above average for this time of year. The maximum temperature on Saturday in Teterboro will be 73 degrees, according to NWS, while the normal maximum temperature for that day in that area is 66 degrees. The normal high for October 21 in Teterboro is 65 degrees.

Temperatures approaching records

High temperatures this week are approaching record highs. In Bergenfield, highs in late October were in the low 80s, according to data shared by Bob Ziff of the North Jersey Weather Observers. In Bergenfield, temperatures could reach the upper 70s Saturday through Thursday.

NWS meteorologist Jay Engle attributes these above-average temperatures to jet streams.

“Usually it is the jet streams that are the main determining factor in this. When the jet streams move further south in our part of the country, it tends to be cooler, but when the jet stream is north of us and further west, we tend to get warmer,” Engle said.

Although Bergen County is seeing above-average maximum temperatures, the meteorologist believes this is not a cause for concern.

“It’s the weather, not the climatology, and the weather changes. We’ve had cold nights and now we’re going back to warmer nights. This oscillation is nothing abnormal,” Engle said.

Dry again a concern

What could be a concern, according to Engle, is the dry month of October in North Jersey. “If it doesn’t start raining in a few weeks, we could see stronger drought conditions. Normally the drought only gets worse in the summer because it’s hot. But if we don’t get rain soon, you could have fires.” ,” Engle said.

Not only will temperatures be warm this week, but skies will be clear and sunny and no precipitation is expected in the Teterboro area, according to NWS.

The National Weather Service’s seven-day forecast for Teterboro shows maximum temperatures reaching more normal conditions starting Thursday with a high of 65 degrees and a high near 57 degrees the next day.
