Terre Haute will receive .5 million for road and bridge work

Gov. Eric Holcomb and the Indiana Department of Transportation announced nearly $140 million in benefits Thursday through the state’s Community Crossings grant program.

A total of 223 communities received benefits. In the Wabash Valley, these communities include:

• Terre Haute, $1,500,000;

• Greene County, $1,500,000;

• Parke County, $338,446;

• Universal, $67,877;

• Vermillion County, $375,454.

Sen. Greg Goode, R-Terre Haute, said, “As a center of economic opportunity in the Wabash Valley, Terre Haute is working hard to attract businesses and families to the area. This funding will ensure that city roads and bridges are properly maintained, and I commend local leaders for signing up for this program and finding ways to improve our community.”

Communities submitted funding applications during a competitive call for projects in July. Funding for Community Crossings comes from the state’s local road and bridge grant fund.

Through the program, the Indiana Department of Transportation will match $1.5 million annually when municipalities invest in road and bridge repairs.

Counties with fewer than 50,000 residents and cities and towns with fewer than 10,000 residents will receive a 75%/25% match, while counties with more than 50,000 residents and cities and towns with more than 10,000 residents will receive a 50%/50% match .

A list of all communities receiving matching funds in the Fall 2024 Call for Projects can be found with this story on tribstar.com.

The next call for projects opens in January.
