Terrifying footage from a home surveillance camera shows the moments three armed suspects tried to enter a Whittier home early Friday evening.

The family who lived in the home in the 8100 block of Bradwell Avenue says the men, all wearing masks and hoodies, claimed to be part of their gas company and asked to check a meter but were told they were not were able to get in because they were “very suspicious,” as described in a message from the victims in the Ring app.

The video shows the three men walking away from the front door and the family walking outside shortly afterwards and seeing them as they leave around 7pm on Friday.

As they walked back inside, the three suspects are seen sprinting toward the family while pulling what appeared to be weapons from their waistbands.

The family was able to get back inside safely before the men fled the area.

Now others living in the area are concerned for their own safety.

“It’s scary, kind of a wake-up call to look out for each other,” said a woman who did not want to be identified. “Nothing like this has ever happened since we moved here.”

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators are investigating the incident.
