Texans WR Nico Collins placed on IR as the NFL’s receiving leader and missed at least four games

The Houston Texans have placed wide receiver Nico Collins on injured reserve, ruling him out for at least the next four games.

Collins injured his hamstring in the first half of Houston’s 23-20 Week 5 win over the Buffalo Bills. After being evaluated in the medical tent, he left for the locker room and was excluded at halftime.

Before leaving the game, Collins had recorded two receptions for 78 yards, including a touchdown from 67 yards.

On Monday, Collins’ status changed from day to day to week to week.

“Nico, he’s in good spirits,” Texans coach DeMeco Ryans said Monday. “Obviously with the hamstring it takes a few weeks for a hamstring, so we’ll evaluate that week by week to see where we can get it.”

Through five weeks, the 25-year-old Collins leads the NFL in receiving yards with 567. He ranks third in receptions with 32, has three touchdowns this season and is tied with four other receivers for the NFL lead with eight receptions of at least 20 yards or more.

Collins will miss the Texans’ upcoming games against the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets. He is eligible to return for their Week 10 game against the Detroit Lions on November 10.
