Texas and Oregon lead AP Top 25 after big wins in Week 7

Texas and Oregon are the top two teams in the AP Top 25 after their big wins on Saturday.

The Longhorns remained at No. 1 after a 34-3 win over Oklahoma. Texas scored 34 straight points in the win as Quinn Ewers returned to the court for the first time since Week 3.

Oregon’s victory was a little closer. The Ducks defeated Ohio State 32-31 on a go-ahead field goal with less than two minutes remaining. The Buckeyes got within field goal range, but an offensive pass interference penalty pushed them back and QB Will Howard slid late in his scramble across the field as time expired.

The Buckeyes fell from No. 2 to No. 4 after the loss. They were jumped by Penn State, who defeated USC 33-30 in overtime. The Nittany Lions moved up one spot.

Georgia remained at No. 5, ahead of Miami, Alabama, LSU, Iowa State and Clemson. The Tigers moved up five spots after beating Ole Miss in overtime on Saturday night. The Rebels fell nine places to No. 18 after the loss.

Tennessee fell to No. 11 after an overtime win at home over Florida. The Vols have fallen three spots and are ahead of Notre Dame, BYU, Texas A&M and Boise State.

The Broncos are the top non-power conference team in the country and are among three groups of five teams in the top 25. Army (No. 23) and Navy (No. 25) are newcomers to the poll this week after their undefeated starts. The Black Knights defeated UAB on Saturday and Navy left after a 5-0 start.

Vanderbilt (4-2) was the top team outside the top 25 after its 20-13 win at Kentucky, a week after beating Alabama at home. The SEC has six teams in the top 14 and eight overall in the top 25. The Big Ten has six teams in the poll, including three of the top five teams.
