‘That’s not a cop. So I just kept driving,” says driver almost hit by fake police suspect

Christin Hale and Adam Hollon became suspicious of the Chevrolet Tahoe that was following them. The afternoon of June 15, what appeared to be the blue lights of a police car began flashing.

“We were driving on the highway and a guy hit us from behind,” Hollon told News Center 7’s Taylor Robertson Monday night. “I thought that’s not a cop. So I just kept going.”

Their suspicions became reality when the car behind them was stopped in Springboro later that same day and the driver was arrested on charges of impersonating a police officer or private police officer. That driver, identified as 52-year-old Dennis Meade of Middletown, remained in the Montgomery County Jail Monday evening.

Hale said the Tahoe hit the shoulder on state Route 741 in Miamisburg, “acted like it was a cop, turned on its lights and then came up behind us.”

Hollon, in his car with Hale and their two young children, said they were driving onto I-75 and the driver tried to hit them several times. Hollon called 9-1-1 and got off the highway.

A Springboro police officer who stopped Meade later had him arrested after finding a loaded gun in his waistband and ammunition in his pocket.

“I mean, through his windows, he has wheels like those on police cars. He’s in the spotlight. He’s got the PA, the radios, the sirens. He has it all,” Hollon said.
