Dave and Adam’s Card World started a sports card gold rush by announcing a $1 million bounty to the lucky collector who scooped up Connor Bedard’s Young Guns Gold Outburst one-for-one on March 4, 2024.
It is important to note that there was never any mention of a possible expiration date for the $1 million premium in March.
The $1 million bounty sent the sports card community into an uproar.
Sports card enthusiasts tore through box after box in hopes of finding the coveted Bedard Gold Outburst. People who never dreamed of buying a box of hockey cards now bought Upper Deck 2023-24 Series with two hockey cases at the same time!
There is no telling how many boxes of Upper Deck 2023-24 Series Two Hockey have been sold by retailers around the world.
There’s no telling how many boxes of Upper Deck 2023-24 Series Two Hockey Dave and Adam’s Card World have sold in the last ten months.
Bounty expired
Dave and Adam’s Card World were quick to report the $1 million bounty last March. There was less enthusiasm at Dave and Adam’s Card World to announce the expiration of the $1 million incentive on December 9.
There has never been an official message on social media or a warning that the bounty will end soon. Just the fine print above.

Bad Optics by Dave and Adam’s Card World
Let’s start by recognizing that a $1 million bounty is extremely generous. Who wouldn’t trade a little piece of cardboard for $1 million that came out of a $300 box?
The main problem is that collectors, breakers, hobbyists, influencers and people who want to gamble have been hunting for the Bedard Young Guns Gold Outburst one-of-one for ten months. Everyone is heavily invested in the chase. Tens of millions of dollars have been invested.
The concern is the sudden expiration of the premium without prior notice. Imagine if they stopped putting expiration dates on gallons of milk? The milk tasted fine yesterday and today it smelled funny.
Dave and Adam’s Card World just served a glass of bad milk to the entire sports card community.
Although we’ll never know exactly how many boxes of Upper Deck 2023-24 Series Two Hockey Dave and Adam’s Card World sold. It’s safe to assume that millions have been profited in the last ten months.
The sports card community has paid high prices for Upper Deck Series Two Hockey as a result of the $1 million bounty offered by Dave and Adam’s Card World. Boxes were selling for over $350 around release time and are now selling for $230 since the bounty ended.
Has the Bedard bubble burst?
Some in the hockey card community have considered Bedard a failure because his cards dropped in value. Breakers have had trouble selling Upper Deck’s 2023-2024 hockey products with Bedard’s rookie cards. The Blackhawks cover up to 40% of the total cost of a group vacation. It was a losing proposition for hockey collectors who hounded Bedard at recess because of the box prices.
On the plus side, if Dave and Adam’s Card World removes the $1 million bounty, box prices could start to drop.
This doesn’t seem right
It’s hard to find the silver lining in Dave and Adam’s Card World unexpectedly canceling its $1 million bounty. Maybe someone experienced the Bedard Young Guns Gold Outburst and didn’t want the $1 million? If that were the case, it would be nice if that information were shared.
Even though Bedard’s cards dropped in value, his Young Guns Gold Outburst could fetch six figures at auction.
Imagine if you pulled that card today? It could be a $900,000 loss. That’s crazy to understand.
Maybe Dave and Adam’s will bring back the $1 million bounty?
Dave and Adam’s Card World will face a lot of negative public relations over the decision to withdraw the $1 million bounty. Maybe they will do the right thing and bring back the $1 million bounty?
That would boost sales and give them a reason to increase prices for Upper Deck 2023-24 Series Two Hockey Boxes.
Have fun hunting and collecting!
“I know they got a goal and some chances and stuff. But just for me, I think they were a little bit free tonight, like a lot of our guys.”
