The Akron school board has narrowed its list of 20 candidates for an open board seat to five finalists.
The Akron Public Schools Board of Education met Saturday and selected these finalists for the vacant position:

Gregory Harrison

Evelyn Rizzo
The seat is open because board member Job Esau Perry is resigning to take a job as a magistrate on the Summit County Probate Court.
The board will fill the vacancy within 30 days, according to a news release from the district.
Although Ohio law requires the board to fill the vacancy at its “next regular or special meeting,” at least 10 days after the vacancy occurs, the district release notes that a few courts have ruled that this timing is not required.
