Donald Trump’s criminal case in Georgia has now been suspended indefinitely.
The Georgia Court of Appeals announced Monday that it has withdrawn arguments set for next month in the president-elect’s attempt to kick Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis out of the case accusing him of conspiring to overturn Georgia’s election results. To corrupt 2020.
The one-page order, signed by the court’s clerk, does not explain the decision to quash the scheduled Dec. 5 arguments or indicate which justices agreed. All four of Trump’s criminal cases have now been delayed since his election to a second presidential term.
A spokesperson for Willis and an attorney for Trump did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Legal experts say the two federal cases are all but dead due to Trump’s election victory, while the Georgia case and another criminal case in New York face legal hurdles that could halt further proceedings for the duration of Trump’s second term.
The Georgia court’s decision comes on the eve of a pivotal moment in the New York case, where he faced a looming conviction following his conviction for trying to cover up a hush money scheme. And special counsel Jack Smith is preparing to resolve his own criminal charges against Trump in Washington, DC and Florida, with a status report in both cases due early next month.
