The Arctic attack subsides this weekend

Big temperature spike today with highs in the low 60s after an extended period of cold weather. The day started warmer with temperatures rising into the 40s before sunrise peaked in the upper 50s and low 60s. As quickly as the warmer weather developed, it will be wiped out overnight thanks to an Arctic attack.

The polar front arrives around midnight with gusty winds and dropping temperatures. By morning, readings will be in the upper teens and 20s, with wind chills in the single digits. The cold doesn’t let up during the day, with afternoon readings below freezing across much of the Ozarks.

The week ends with a frigid feeling in the morning, but comes with the promise of warmer weather over the weekend as winds increase again from the southwest.

There will be a rapid increase in cloud cover on Sunday, which could weaken warming. There is also a chance of rain in the afternoon, especially south of I-44.

Monday will be a transition day and may bring some clouds and cool temperatures before the next wintry air arrives on Tuesday.
