The Arizona Supreme Court will not hear Kari Lake’s appeal of the 2022 governor’s defeat

PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Supreme Court has rejected Republican Kari Lake’s latest appeal of her defeat in the 2022 governor’s race, marking another loss in her bid to overturn the race’s outcome.

The court on Thursday made public its refusal to hear the former TV presenter’s appeal without explaining its decision.

Lake, now locked in a U.S. Senate race against Democrat Ruben Gallego, had lost the governor’s race against Democrat Katie Hobbs by more than 17,000 votes.

The courts had previously rejected Lake’s claims that problems with ballot printers at some polling places in Maricopa County on Election Day in 2022 were the result of intentional misconduct and that Maricopa County did not verify signatures on ballots as required by law. A judge also denied Lake’s request to examine the ballots of 1.3 million early voters. In total, Lake had three lawsuits related to the 2022 election.

Despite her previous court losses and a ruling affirming Hobbs’ victory, Lake had asked the Arizona Supreme Court to review her case, claiming she had new evidence to support her claims. Maricopa County attorneys told the court that Lake has not presented any new evidence that could change the court’s findings.

Lake is one of the most vocal Republican candidates to promote former President Donald Trump’s election lies, which she made a centerpiece of her campaign for governor. While most other election deniers across the country relented after losing their races, Lake did not.

The Lake campaign did not respond to an email seeking comment on the Supreme Court’s latest decision.
