The Colleyville city councilor is resigning after a DWI charge, his second in three months

A Colleyville city councilman has resigned after being arrested by Colleyville police Thursday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to a city news release.

George Bond, 42, would end his term in second place next year, the city said. He has lived in Colleyville since 2015. He was also arrested on Valentine’s Day on charges of driving under the influence.

Bond was stopped by officers around 3:15 a.m. in the 1100 block of Cheek Sparger Road for failing to stop at a designated point, a police spokesman said. The police suspected he was drunk and arrested him.

Mayor Bobby Lindamood said in a news release Thursday that he is “saddened by the events surrounding the arrest of City Councilman George Bond” and that he is grateful Bond did not hurt himself or others.

“It is my sincere hope that George can receive the help needed to live a happy and healthy life,” Lindamood said in the press release. “In my opinion, however, this event has called into question George’s ability to serve as an elected official for our great city.”

Lindamood told the Star-Telegram in a text message after the arrest on Valentine’s Day that he was awaiting the results of a blood alcohol test.

“Everyone makes mistakes, and in those times we hope that our friends will support us in times of need. We will wait for now and take small steps until all information is released,” Lindamood said after that first arrest.

This time, Lindamood said he requested Bond’s resignation from the council, and Bond complied. The City Council is expected to discuss the arrest and firing at its next meeting on June 4.
