MINNEAPOLIS – At least 75 DNA samples in the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office forensic lab may be contaminated.

The sheriff’s office says the contamination was discovered last month and all DNA analysis cases were halted after its discovery.

Authorities do not know the source, but say it may have come from an external product used in the DNA testing process.

According to the sheriff’s office, the contamination came from an unknown DNA profile, meaning no criminal charges or conviction could result.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Science Laboratory is an internationally recognized laboratory, the sheriff’s office says. The authorities are working with the accreditation organization to investigate this.
