MINNEAPOLIS— A first-of-its-kind treatment center aimed at helping people living with or at risk of HIV has now opened in Minneapolis.
The Aliveness Project’s Thrive Clinic and Pharmacy opened on Sunday, in observance of World AIDS Day.
The dedicated HIV pharmacy will make it easier for Minnesotans to get care.
People can receive full care in one location, including case management, free meals, groceries, telephones and now a pharmacy. It is a trusted space where privacy and dignity are offered.
Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey says the center will help people living with the disease live better lives.
“We need a community — You need a whole group of people committed to a common goal, who believe not only that we can help people live incredibly healthy and beautiful lives, but that they are also there for each other, and that’s a big part of what this Thrive pharmacy, this Thrive center, can ultimately provide,” Frey said.
The money spent in the center also stays there. Profits from filled prescriptions are reinvested in their programs such as health care and access to housing.
