Dec. 10 – Greensburg police are selling four long guns seized in a criminal case years ago, Police Chief Charles Irvin says.
The City Council on Monday unanimously approved the sale of the firearms to Hufftown Highpower in South Greensburg for $1,660. Irvin said the weapons were ordered by a judge to be used for training by department officers.
“We’ve never used them,” he said. “They’ve been in our weapons store for years.”
It is common in criminal cases for a judge to order the weapons involved to be destroyed, he said, but that did not happen in this situation.
“We actually stocked them for free,” Irvin said.
The city did not need to solicit bids because the amount falls below the state’s threshold, he said.
