The high-speed chase through Thurston and Pierce counties ends with the discovery of a suspect in the pond

Around 3:41 a.m. Saturday morning, Olympia police attempted to stop a suspect with warrants as he drove away.

According to the police, the driver drove suspiciously and without lights, which led the police to suspect that he was driving under the influence.

The suspect fled via Interstate 5 through unincorporated Pierce County, Lakewood and Tacoma.

Pursuing police retreated in an attempt to de-escalate, but continued to follow the car as the Washington State Patrol (WSP) aircraft flew overhead.

The driver hit a curb and fled on foot, police said.

Thurston County Sheriff, deputies and Tacoma police followed the driver on foot into the woods before finding the driver hiding in a pond.

The suspect was booked into the Thurston County Jail.
