Police are investigating a number of car burglaries in Suffield over the past week that are believed to be possibly linked to an uptick in surrounding towns and Massachusetts.
The burglaries involved thieves who shattered windows of vehicles where valuables could be seen, Suffield police said.
Police said they have video footage of the suspects captured on home surveillance cameras, although the footage did not help identify the thieves.
According to police, the thieves fled from homes where motion-activated lights illuminated the area. They have also left vehicles alone if there is nothing valuable to see inside.
Suffield police said they are working with multiple law enforcement agencies in neighboring cities and those in Massachusetts, where similar increases have been reported. Authorities are working together to “determine if any of us have a viable lead that we can all work on.”
“As a reminder, remove all valuables from your car at the end of the day, do not leave the keys in the car, and lock all car doors when you return home each evening,” Suffield police said in a statement.
