The Israeli army says it has withdrawn from Jabalia in the Gaza Strip

The Israeli army announced the end of its operation in the city of Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip on Friday.

Hundreds of Palestinian fighters are said to have been killed in fighting and airstrikes.

The information could not initially be independently verified.

According to Palestinian accounts, Israeli attacks in Jabalia have also claimed many civilian lives.

The military says the bodies of seven Israelis kidnapped during the Palestinian militant group Hamas’ attack in the Gaza Strip on October 7 were found during on-the-ground operations in recent weeks.

The army said it had also destroyed about 10 kilometers of tunnels and found hundreds of weapons and several weapons production facilities.

This information also could not be independently verified.

There has been heavy fighting in Jabalia for several weeks. The Times of Israel newspaper reported that a total of ten Israeli soldiers were killed during operations there. Residents confirmed that the army had withdrawn from the city. Many have since returned to the area to check on their homes.

The army has already conquered and withdrawn from Jabalia. Chief of the General Staff Herzi Halevi recently complained that the lack of a political strategy for the post-war period meant that the army was repeatedly forced to fight in places in the Gaza Strip from which it had already withdrawn. He mentioned Jabalia as an example.
