The Israeli military says UN peacekeepers in Syria were attacked

Israel said on Saturday it is supporting United Nations peacekeepers in Syria after an attack by “armed individuals”.

The Israeli military said the UN position near the town of Hader, close to the border with Israel, was attacked.

Israel previously said it was strengthening its units in the annexed Golan Heights region, which it captured from Syria in 1967 and annexed in 1981.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a British war monitor, rebel forces have occupied several positions near the border with Israel, including Quneitra governorate.
