Yes, the Jets beat the Texans 30-6 last year at MetLife Stadium. But that was last year. This year, the Jets are in freefall in the wake of coach Robert Saleh’s firing. With losses mounting, including a demoralizing loss to the previously 1-6 Patriots, what makes anyone think interim coach Jeff Ulbrich can get this team reset in a short week for a game against an AFC Super Bowl contender?
The situation plays into the hands of Texans coach DeMeco Ryans, who can now point to the point spread as an indication that people don’t believe in his team in an effort to get them ready for the first of three consecutive primetime games. (the lions and cowboys are next).
Meanwhile, the Jets were favored in two of the three previous post-Saleh games. And they are 0-3.
But they are still preferred for Thursday evening. Maybe the gamblers know something the rest of us don’t. Or maybe they’re just wrong again.
