The land deal for North Florida has been completed

An $8.25 million deal to purchase an easement that would preserve 4,808 acres of land north of Tallahassee has been completed, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection announced Friday.

Ron DeSantis and the state cabinet approved the deal with Gem Land Co. in September. Good.

“These types of acquisitions are essential to further conserve our water, wildlife and the unique natural landscapes that people associate with our state,” Secretary of Environmental Protection Shawn Hamilton said in a prepared statement Friday.

Conservation easements are generally intended to protect land from development while allowing the current landowner to continue farming operations.

The money for the deal came from the Florida Forever program.
