The Las Vegas Foundation will distribute 5,000 in health care subsidies thanks to the NMDOJ settlement

Nov. 17 – The New Mexico Department of Justice announced Saturday that $285,000 in settlement money from a 2022 lawsuit will go to the Las Vegas New Mexico Community Foundation for expanded health care grants.

The foundation, which will oversee the funds, will award the grants to San Miguel County nonprofits for “community health care needs,” including behavioral needs.

The money comes as a result of a lawsuit filed in December 2022 by then-Attorney General Hector Balderas, who sued Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas and its previous owner, Quorum Health Corp., for violating the Unfair Practices Act , namely misleading information. or false advertising and unscrupulous business practices.

The hospital has since been purchased by Dava Health Inc., based in Nashville, Tennessee.

“We are pleased with the outcome of this settlement and the ability to transfer these funds to the Las Vegas New Mexico Community Foundation,” Attorney General Raúl Torrez said in a statement. “These funds will be used to improve health care in San Miguel County and we look forward to the benefits these funds can bring to the community.”

Elmo Baca, Executive Director of the LVNMCF, added, “We are grateful to the NMDOJ for its work in securing these settlement funds, and we look forward to awarding this grant money to valuable nonprofits serving our communities. “

Nonprofits interested in receiving grant funds from the settlement can call the foundation at 505-600-2868 or email admin@lvnmcf.org.
