The last TGI Fridays in the Mid-Hudson area have closed, along with others in New York

NEWBURGH — TGI Fridays in Newburgh, the chain’s last location in the mid-Hudson Valley, will be permanently closed starting Thursday, according to a notice on the front door.

It was the latest in a series of closures for the nearly 60-year-old chain.

In January, they closed 36 locations in twelve states, most of them in New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts. The Woodbury restaurant in Orange County was one of those closures.

A press release issued at the time stated that the locations that were closed were “underperforming.”

Earlier this month, TGI Fridays closed two more locations in the area: 2594 South Road on Route 9 in Poughkeepsie and 23 Crystal Run Crossing in Middletown.

The Newburgh location was in one of the busiest locations in the city of Newburgh: a corner of the intersection of routes 300 and 17K, in a plaza that is also home to three other stores: Barnes & Noble, Lowe’s and Pier 1.

After the closure announcement, the notice on the front door also read: “Unfortunately, we have no locations nearby. But look for us at airports and in other cities across the country. We are our loyal guests and our team deeply grateful. Members, and will miss serving this community.”

Other TGI Fridays restaurants in New York were also closed Thursday, including the TGI Fridays at Destiny USA in Syracuse, as well as locations in Rochester, Vestal, Saratoga Springs and Amherst, according to the chain’s website.
