The manager of Columbia County Kroger is accused of skimming cash from the registers

A manager at the Kroger Marketplace in Grovetown has been accused of stealing an estimated $44,000 from the store over four months.

Columbia County authorities obtained a theft warrant against Kimberly Summers, a front-end manager at the Kroger at 435 Lewiston Rd., according to a police incident report.

Kroger’s loss prevention officer told a Columbia County sheriff’s deputy on Dec. 17 that when she reviewed security camera footage from Dec. 4, she saw Summers pocketing money she had collected from the store’s self-checkout counters .

When confronted by Kroger’s loss officer and another manager, Summers admitted to taking $4,000, according to the report. She explained to the officer that “she needed money and was low on cash, so she started taking a few hundred dollars out of the machine every time she moved the money,” the report said.

She also said she had been taking money since August, but thought she had only taken $4,000 instead of the reported $44,000.
