PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The City of Philadelphia and Fishtown District announced that the grand opening of the late-night food truck market has been suspended for the time being. They posted on social media that they regretted announcing the postponement of the grand opening.
The food truck market was promoted as a pilot initiative with a rotation of food trucks, outdoor seating, arts, culture and entertainment that would open Thursday through Sunday through November 3 at 9 p.m.
Following the postponement, the city and Fishtown District said they will keep the public informed of future events and opportunities and appreciate the enthusiasm for this first-of-its-kind project.
“We are committed to supporting the growth of our nighttime economy in Philadelphia, which is a dynamic engine of world-class tourism, hospitality, arts and cultural resources,” the Fishtown District said.
CBS News Philadelphia also spoke with some concertgoers who said they were looking forward to the nightly food truck market.”
“We’re so disappointed. We’re here for a concert. We were excited and couldn’t wait to hang out here,” said Erik Thompson of Northeast Philly.
“I was looking forward to a snack after the show,” said Mike Peipert, a Fishtown native. “Being able to hang out near the area and locations.”
While it is still unclear why it was postponed, many believe it would have been a hit in the community.
“Yes, I think it’s a great time of year to be outside in a little courtyard, eating food trucks and playing live music,” Peipert said. “If you show up with food trucks, people will come.”
